Daily Minyan – May 16, 2009

The first A.L. night game is played at Shibe Park on May 16, 1939, with Cleveland beating the host Philadelphia Athletics, 8-3 in ten innings.  Jewish Hall of Famer Lou Boudreau most likely played in that game for the Indians.

Since almost all of Friday’s games were played under the lights, let’s see if anybody did anything enlightening!

Brad Ausmus, C – Los Angeles Dodgers

Brad didn’t play in yesterday’s Dodgers’ loss to the Marlins.

Ryan Braun, OF, 3B – Milwaukee Brewers

Yesterday’s Brewers game was postponed with Ryan sitting on an average of .322.

Craig Breslow, P – Minnesota Twins

Craig didn’t pitch in yesterday’s Twins loss to the Yankees.

Scott Feldman, P – Texas Rangers

Scott had a day of rest.

John Grabow, P, Pittsburgh Pirates

John earned his 4th hold of the year in the Rockies loss to the Pirates, by getting the only batter he faced, Todd Helton, to fly out.  He lowered his ERA to 5.62.

John earned a Chai 5 for getting a hold.

Gabe Kapler, OF – Tampa Bay Rays

Gabe didn’t play in the Rays victory over the Indians.

Ian Kinsler, 2B – Texas Rangers

Ian got back on track in a big way, slugging 2 homers (# 10 and 11), knocking in three runs, scoring three runs and for good measure, walking twice.  He was 2-for-3 and was on base 5 times in yesterday’s Rangers victory over the Angels.  It was Ian’s fourth career multihomer game. This performance raised his average to .318.

Jason Marquis, P – Colorado Rockies

Jason had a day of rest and reflection (I hope!).

Scott Schoeneweis, P – Arizona Diamondbacks

Scott didn’t pitch in the D-backs loss to the Braves.

Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B – Boston Red Sox

Youk is on the 15-day disabled list–retroactive to May 5–because of a strained oblique on his left side.
